When talking about monitoring a server and the services running on it, most of the time Cacti, Nagios, Zabbix and similar packages come to mind. These, while popular and powerful are too complex for smaller installations and most of the time are required to be run on their own server. This could be too much overhead for smaller installations and definitely not suitable for home users.
This presentation will demonstate how with a few steps it is possible to install a sophisticated monitoring platform on any Linux box with very little overhead using collectd, lighttpd and drraw. It will cover all the steps, including some basic customizations and examples.
